How AI background removal works
The tool runs a segmentation model directly in your browser to identify the main subject in your photo, then removes everything else. This happens entirely on your device — your eyes only — we never get a look, so it works even for sensitive or personal images.
Background removal is useful well beyond passport photos: cutting a product out for a marketplace listing, cleaning up a headshot for a résumé or LinkedIn profile, prepping an image to drop onto a different background in a presentation or poster, or isolating a logo or object for a design project. Yes — the segmentation model isn't limited to people. It works well on any photo with one clear subject standing out from its background: a product shot for a listing, a pet photo, or an object on a table. Results are weaker on photos with several overlapping subjects or very low contrast between subject and background.
Why does this need a modern browser, and why might it be slow on some devices?
The AI model runs using your device's GPU via WebGL, which is what makes it fast enough to work instantly instead of needing a server. Older phones or browsers without solid WebGL support can still process images, just more slowly — for the best speed, use a recent version of Chrome, Edge, or Safari on a laptop or desktop.
