The PDF is built entirely on your device — your rent and landlord details are never uploaded.
⚠️ Cash rent over ₹5,000/month requires a revenue stamp per Indian stamp duty rules. Affix a ₹1 revenue stamp on the printed receipt and have your landlord sign across it.
How to generate a rent receipt online
Fill in the tenant and landlord names, the property address, monthly rent, and payment mode. Add the landlord's PAN if you have it — useful if your annual rent crosses ₹1,00,000, since employers commonly ask for it above that threshold. Choose Monthly or Quarterly frequency, then a single period or a range, and click "Generate PDF" to download a properly formatted receipt, ready to print, sign, and submit. For a batch of receipts, tick "Compact layout" to fit 3 per page instead of printing one page per receipt.
Most salaried employees need rent receipts once a year, around HRA (House Rent Allowance) declaration time: employers typically ask for proof of rent paid in January-March for the coming financial year's declaration, and again for actual investment proof submission around April-July after the year closes. Rather than filling out a fresh receipt each month, this tool's "multiple months" mode generates a whole financial year's worth (April to March, or any range) as one combined PDF in a single pass — convenient for a single HRA submission instead of twelve separate documents.
Is this receipt valid for HRA exemption claims?
A rent receipt in this standard format (tenant and landlord names, address, amount, period, payment mode, landlord signature) is the document most employers and the Income Tax Department expect for HRA exemption claims. Acceptance ultimately depends on your employer's HR/payroll process — you're responsible for getting your landlord to sign it and for providing any other supporting proof (like a rent agreement) your employer requests.
Do I need a revenue stamp on my rent receipt?
Under Indian stamp duty rules, a revenue stamp is required when rent is paid in cash and exceeds ₹5,000 for that receipt. This tool automatically shows a note when your entered amount and payment mode meet that condition — affix a ₹1 revenue stamp and have the landlord sign across it. It's not required for bank transfer, UPI, or cheque payments.
Can I add my landlord's PAN number?
Yes — there's an optional PAN field. Many employers require it (or a declaration if the landlord doesn't have one) when annual rent exceeds ₹1,00,000, so it's worth including if you have it and your rent is in that range.
Is my rent or landlord data uploaded or stored anywhere?
No — the receipt is generated entirely in your browser using pdf-lib. After each generated receipt, the details are cached in your browser's local storage on this device only (reload them via "Load last used" next time, or clear them with "Clear form") — nothing is ever sent to a server.
Can I generate receipts for multiple months at once?
Yes — switch to "Multiple months" mode, set a start and end month, and choose whether you want one combined multi-page PDF or a separate PDF for each month. The combined PDF is usually more convenient for a single HRA declaration submission.
Can I generate quarterly rent receipts instead of monthly?
Yes — set Frequency to "Quarterly" and each receipt will cover a 3-month period with the rent amount automatically multiplied by 3, instead of generating one receipt per month. This works in both single-period and multi-period mode.
Can I print several receipts on one sheet of paper?
Yes — when generating multiple receipts as one combined PDF, tick "Compact layout" to fit 3 receipts per A4 page with dashed cut lines between them, instead of one receipt per page. Useful if you're printing a batch and want to save paper.
