How to convert HEIC to JPG

Upload a HEIC or HEIF photo — typically one shared from an iPhone or iPad — and it converts to JPG automatically, entirely in your browser. Adjust the quality slider if you need a smaller file, then click "Convert & Download."

HEIC has been the default photo format on iPhone since iOS 11, storing roughly the same visual quality as JPG in about half the file size — great for saving storage on the phone itself, but a real problem the moment that photo needs to go somewhere that doesn't recognize the format: plenty of websites, upload forms, older photo-editing tools, and non-Apple devices either reject a HEIC file outright or just show a blank icon where the photo should be. Converting to JPG the moment you run into that problem is usually faster than digging through iPhone camera settings to change the capture format going forward.

Why do my iPhone photos come as HEIC instead of JPG?
HEIC has been the default photo format on iPhone since iOS 11 — it stores roughly the same visual quality as JPG in about half the file size, which saves storage space and upload time. The tradeoff is that a lot of websites, older devices, and non-Apple software still don't recognize HEIC files at all.
Why won't a website or app accept my HEIC photo?
HEIC is a relatively new format and support for it outside Apple's own ecosystem is inconsistent — many web browsers, upload forms, and older editing tools only recognize universal formats like JPG or PNG, and will either reject a HEIC file outright or fail to display it.
Does converting HEIC to JPG lose quality?
There's a small amount of quality change, the same tradeoff any format conversion between two compressed formats involves, but at a high JPG quality setting it's not noticeable in normal viewing. The conversion also typically increases file size, since HEIC's compression is more efficient than JPG's for the same visual quality.
Can I convert a HEIC photo that contains a burst or Live Photo?
This converts the primary image from the HEIC file. If the file is a Live Photo or burst containing multiple frames, only the main still frame is converted — the additional frames or the video portion of a Live Photo aren't included.
Is my photo uploaded anywhere?
No — the HEIC file is decoded and converted entirely in your browser using a local decoder, then the JPG is generated on your device. Your photo never leaves your device. See how it works.
